Pachisi
Pachisi
National game of India and Pakistan.

Pachisi (or Parcheesi), which means ''twenty-five'', the highest number that can be thrown using the traditional cowry shells, is a somewhat simpler version of the ancient game of Chaupar, which was created around 4 AD. At Allahabad and Agra in India, remains can be seen today of palaces built for the Indian Emperor Akbar of the 16th century Mogul Empire, which were giant Chaupar boards made of inlaid red and white marble squares. The emperor sat on a raised dais in the middle of the board and threw the shells. Sixteen beautiful women from his harem, dressed in appropriate colors, acted as the pawns, moving around the board as directed by the emperor. (Sorry, this version is not availabe here!)

The object of Pachisi is to move all your pieces from your starting space around the board and up your ladder to ''Home''. For complete rules, see our Games Rules page.

This Pachisi game comes complete with 20'' diam. handcrafted and hand painted pine board (signed and dated), 4 sets of glass pawns in different colors, one pair of dice, handcrafted wood dice cup, cloth pouch for storage of pieces, and complete rules. $65
