The cane is woven into a herringbone pattern around the outside rails of the chair, the pattern extending underneath the chair as well as on top (See additional photos). No groove or holes are required. I charge $6 per inch along the longest rail plus materials. A 14'' X 14'' seat would be $84 plus $22 materials, for a total of $106 plus tax where applicable.
