Cribbage is a card game, the invention of which is usually attributed to the English poet John Suckling (1609-1642), an expert card player and notorious womanizer, and it is very similar to the game of Noddy played in Tudor times. Dickens immortalized the game in his ''Old Curiosity Shop''. Cribbage is the only gambling game that can be legally played today in British pubs, and the scoring board can also be used for other traditional pub games including Table Skittles (a miniature bowling-type game) and Indoor Quoits (a kind of ring toss).
