Fighting Serpents - Kolowis Awithlaknannai
Fighting Serpents - Kolowis Awithlaknannai
Fighting Serpents or Kolowis Awithlaknannai is a traditional American Indian game played originally by the Zuni Indians of New Mexico. It involves two sides (snakes) at war. It resembles Checkers, and appears to be a modification of the game of Alquerque, which was thought to have been brought to the American Southwest by the Spaniards. Boards have been found cut into the flat stone roofs of Zuni homes, which were used as terraces.

The object of the Fighting Serpents is to capture all your opponent's pieces by jumping over them. For complete rules, see our Games Rules page.

This wooden Fighting Serpents game is handcrafted in pine, and comes complete with 20'' X 5'' board (signed and dated), two sets of 23 glass playing pieces, a cloth pouch for storage of pieces, and complete rules. Pieces shown are Red/White, but you may also choose from Red/Black, Black/White, Dark Blue/White, Green/White. Click ''Additional Images'' to view all available colors. Call or email if a different combination of colors is desired. $40
