The object of Chinese Chess (Xiangqi) is to capture the enemy general. Each army has a fortress within which the general and his mandarins direct operations.Between the two armies is a river which the heavily-laden elephants are unable to cross. The pieces (each of which moves in a different way) are marked with Chinese characters on the upper surface and with English abbreviations on the bottom. For complete rules, see our Games Rules page.
