CLASSIC WOODEN GAMES
Mancala
Mancala
Mancala is one of the oldest games in the world. Boards have been found carved into the roofs of Egyptian temples in Memphis, Thebes, and Luxor, dating to before 1400 BC. Some historians believe it evolved in Egypt from boards and counters used for accounting purposes. African people today dig hollows out of dirt, and play with pebbles, seeds, or shells.

To begin, 4 stones are placed in each of the twelve small bowls. Players take turns moving the stones around the board, with the object being to be the player with the most stones at the end of the game. For complete rules, see our Games Rules page.

Each wooden mancala game comes complete with board, handcrafted in pine and signed and dated, 48 assorted colored glass stones, cloth pouch for storage of pieces, and complete rules. Two styles are available--flat (24'' X 5'' X 1/2'' high--$35) and raised (22'' X 5'' X 3'' high--$40). (Choose from available options). The end mancalas (storage holes) in the raised style have a swiveling bottom for easy removal of stones.
